Many are the wonderful things I have read in the Bible, but before reading them someone shared them with me. Word of kindness, peace, respect, fairness, grace. Oh, they sounded so wonderful. Hearing individuals talk about how they could be kind to other and how others can be kind to them as well, and how all of it occurs because of the grace of God. It inspired me to learn more about the grace of God. I had two choices; I could only take what others told me about God or I could listen to them and read the bible for myself. I chose the latter.
I began reading and started to find more than what I heard, as delightful as it was. I started understanding why God asked and required the things of me that He did. I found a lot of hope and inspiration to live my life but most importantly I found out how to fight sin. Sin is the desire that we all have to do things that feel good for a while but have devastating consequences. And it seems without sinning life cannot be enjoyed, far from the truth. For example, if you are married and sin rises up in you to have an affair, what devastating consequences will you face after a moment of pleasure? You can hurt yourself in the process by contracting an STD and you can hurt your family. You can instead do what God says, confess your faults one to another and pray for each other. Be open and honest with your spouse and pray. Which do you think will have a better consequence?
Reading for myself brought out lots of things the devil wanted to conceal, like, you can trust Jesus. You should not trust satan. And it showed all the ways in which satan was trusted and Jesus doubted. I was enabled to see things as they really were and are.
